Sign up for bus delay/cancellation alerts…..

Hello Families,

The first couple months of school are often a challenge with busses, as STSWR sort out routs, stops,
drivers, etc. Please note that you can sign up for bus delay/cancellation alters for your child's
bus route. Open this STSWR link for the details. Alters will come directly to your phone or e-mail.

Catholic School Advisory Council (CSAC) 2023-2024…

Hello Families,

On behalf of our Catholic School Advisory Council (CSAC), welcome back to another exciting year at St. Daniel School! Our first official meeting this year will be Tuesday, October 3rd, @ 5:30 in the library.

CSAC’s goal is to help parents keep informed on educational matters in an open forum. CSAC is also involved with a variety of fundraising initiatives. All money raised goes back to our school to support our students and student learning.

CSAC meetings are open to all parents with children attending our school. All parents and teachers are invited to attend, however only CSAC members are eligible to vote on Council matters.

The members of CSAC include the Principal, Vice-Principal a teacher representative, and parent representatives. Elected positions from the parent representatives include the Chairperson, Treasurer, and Secretary. If you would like to take on one of the elected roles, we welcome your commitment. You will be required to attend our meetings and report on your responsibilities as necessary.

If you would like to attend our CSAC meeting, please R.S.V.P. to Mr. Noonan by September 29th (james.noonan@wcdsb.ca).

If you would like to be nominated for a CSAC executive role, please email Mr. Noonan (james.noonan@wcdsb.ca) by September 29th, indicating what position you would like to be considered for (Chair, Treasurer, Secretary).

We are looking forward to a very exciting year.

Kindly,

St. Daniel CSAC

KidsAbility Partnership…

Hello Families

During this school year, an Occupational Therapist (OT) from KidsAbility Centre for Child Development will once again be working with teachers and students in our school.

OTs are regulated health professionals who focus on improving activities of daily living. An OT will be in our school on a regular basis to support teachers in our classrooms, gym, and playground. This support is available to all classrooms.

OTs may visit your child’s classroom to observe. The OT may suggest universal (general) strategies to the classroom teachers that can be used by all students. This consultation and coaching might look at how to improve activities such as self-care skills (like dressing for recess), cutting with scissors, pencil grasp, printing, cursive writing, typing, ideas to help improve focus in the classroom (such as movement breaks), and participation in gym and on the playground.  Your teacher may share ideas from the OT for you to try at home. The type of OT universal support offered may vary and will depend on the needs of the classroom.

Some students may benefit from more support from the OT. This may include working with the OT one-on-one or in a group at school. If your child may benefit from this individual support, your teacher will contact you to provide more information. You may also contact the teacher at any time if you feel your child might benefit from the OT working with them.

If you have any questions or concerns about this, please contact the office or your child’s teacher.

Thank you,

St. Daniel School Staff

Bus Questions, Concerns etc. …….

Hello Families,

Please note that STSWR (Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region) is a separate entity from the WCDSB and St. Daniel School.

We have no authority over routes, stops, driver concerns,

or technical issues.

Please direct question and comments to STSWR. They can be reached by phone at: 519-744-7575

The STSW Web page has important information for families. This includes closures, delays, and cancellations. Please visit (https://www.stswr.ca/), access the parent link and explore the features for your future reference.

Please note that we are able to support with student behaviour issues that occur on the bus, as if they have occurred at school. Your child’s classroom teacher is always your first point of contact. Please report student behaviour concerns from the bus to your child’s teacher and school staff will look into things on our end.

Bus behaviour is an important safety concern. Students must listen to the driver and follow safety guidelines at all times. This includes things like sitting flat, facing forward, remaining in their seat, and keeping legs and bags out of the isle. There is no food, snacks, or personal phone use on our busses.

Please be aware that students in grades 1-8 are dismissed from the classroom and must independently get to their bus line on time each day. Only students in JK/SK are supported by staff with boarding. Review with your children what bus they are on, and what stop to exit at. Review with your children if they are responsible for a sibling.

Bus delays will be shared from the school, to the extent possible, over NerwsWire or SchoolMessenger. During the first month of school, it is typical for delays to occur as STSWR adjusts routs, bus stops, navigates construction, and updates their staffing.

SchoolMessenger communications go out to all contacts. Please sign up for NewsWire if you have not yet done so. NewsWire is our main communication tool. Visit our school web page, (https://stdaniel.wcdsb.ca/) and register by entering your e-mail in the bottom left section by the “subscribe” button.

Thank you,

St. Daniel School Staff
