St. Daniel Class Assignments and Staffing…

Hello T-Bird families,

As the year comes to a close, we would like to update you on a few things. Our enrollment continues to fluctuate, but we are projecting growth for this fall. With this comes changes in staffing. As of this message we would like to share the following:

Thank you and well wishing to staff moving on to new roles in the WCDSB – Mrs. Coelho, Ms. Farrell, Ms. Timmons, Ms. Gribbon McGraw, Mrs. Gulliver, and Ms. Miller – promoted to School Principal at Holy Family.

We would like to welcome new staff – Ms. Campbell (Gr. 7), Mrs. Weinstein (V.P.), Ms. Tanedo (Gr. 1), Mrs. Shine (Gr. 1), Ms. Santarosa (Gr. 5), Mrs. McKenzie (Planning Time), Mrs. Hart (JI Planning time).

You will note on the upcoming report cards some subjects not fully covered due to unfilled jobs and the staffing challenges that continue in Ontario schools. Staffing and enrollment numbers will continue to adjust throughout the summer and into the fall. Class assignments will be adjusted and change as well. We are currently working on class assignments for the next school year. We are not able to take requests, but please trust in the staff who work hard to create balanced classrooms.

In some cases, there will be split grades, but the teaching and curriculum are still covered with purposeful instruction. See the attachment for more information.

New for this school year is the start date. School will begin on WEDNESDAY, September 4th. Class assignments will be shared on Tuesday, September 3rd, over SchoolCashOnline.

Please note that depending on changes to enrollment, class assignments can change throughout September and the School Board provides direction on when and if this happens.

As always, on the first day we will have staff greeting students outside on the yard to help them find their classes.

A reminder to families with children in kindergarten, you will be contacted at the end of August about your staggered entry date.

We are looking forward to a positive close to this school year and an enjoyable summer break for everyone.

Don’t forget that Tiny Homes Take Out will be open all summer.

School Phone Call – Safe Arrival Attendance System

Hi Thunderbird families,

Earlier this morning a phone call went out to all families from the school phone number. This phone call was a reminder about the new Safe Arrival attendance system, that will be in effect as of tomorrow – Wednesday, June 5th, 2024.  If you missed a call this morning and have no voicemail, there is no need to call the school – this was just an automated call to all families.

Please see the below information regarding the new attendance system. Thank you!

—————————————————————–

This is a reminder that St. Daniel School and all schools in the WCDSB will be using the SafeArrival absence reporting system starting Wednesday June 5, 2024.

Please use the toll-free number, the website, or the SchoolMessenger mobile app to report your child’s absence in advance. The toll-free number is: [1-833-251-3283].

Detailed information was sent home regarding this process. If you have children attending schools that are not yet using SafeArrival, please continue to follow their current attendance reporting process.

Bike to School Week: June 3-7

Bike to School Week is Monday, June 3 to Friday, June 7! This event is open to all WCDSB and WRDSB schools and is brought to you through a partnership between Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region; the cities of Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo; and the Region of Waterloo.

Cycling to and from school is a great way for students to incorporate a healthy and fun activity into their day, while emphasizing the important environmental impact and potential for community building that biking can have. By participating in Bike to School Week, STSWR is asking schools to celebrate students who bike to school and encourage other students to try cycling.

On Wednesday, June 5th we will have our “Bike Count” day and see how many bikes we have in our bike rack! Our school has a chance to win great prizes based off of how much participation we have.

Students can register individually for a chance to win one of 10 active transportation prize packages or one of fifty $15 Dairy Queen gift certificates. Prizes are supplied by the cities of Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo, and the Region of Waterloo.

Please see the link below to register today!

Incident Requiring Fire Response at St. Daniel

Dear Thunderbird Families,

I am writing to inform you that this afternoon there was a minor incident in the staff room kitchen in which the oven began to smoke, setting off our fire alarms. Fortunately, it was at the end of recess when most students were already outside, everyone else evacuated quickly, and the school building received no damage. The situation was swiftly handled by our local fire department.

Ensuring the safety and well-being of our students is always our top priority. We want to assure you that all necessary emergency protocols were followed diligently, and our staff and students handled the situation with efficiency. We regularly conduct drills to prepare for emergencies such as this one, and our staff are well-trained to handle various situations, as was evident today.

We understand that incidents like these can be alarming for parents, but please rest assured that your children’s safety is of the highest importance to us. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you!

St. Daniel School Staff
