Orange T-Shirt Day: Oct 3

Orange shirt day is an annual event that started in 2013 to recognize the legacy of Residential school system for First Nations, Metis and Inuit families and communities. It is a show of support and understanding of the history of the school system that impacts many First Nations, Metis and Inuit people today.

The phrase “Every Child Matters” reminds everyone that children are such an important and integral part of our communities and that they are our future generations of changemakers. By wearing an orange shirt, we have an opportunity to bring awareness to the history of residential schools and to stand up against other injustices that may impact our children/students.

Please wear an orange t-shirt on Tuesday to show our support for our First Nation, Metis and Inuit people.

Champions!!!

Congratulations to our Boys 3 Pitch Team who won the Championship on Monday.

Thanks to our boys for their hard fought battle in the sun and heat. Thanks also to Coach Ruchty for his leadership.

Agenda Insert Support

Every student received an agenda at the start of the school year. In this agenda there is an insert containing very important polices and procedures to help our school community run safely and smoothly.

On Wednesday and Thursday, Mrs. Temple met with the Intermediate classes to review boundaries and expectations on the yard, use of technology, dress code and bus behaviour. Please take some time  to review this insert and discuss it with your children.  We appreciate your support with all that we do to create the best learning environment possible at St. Daniel.  This is the link to the agenda insert Agenda Insert Revised- St Daniel 2017-2018

Bus, Parking Lot and Driveway Update

In order to keep our children safe as they arrive and depart from school, we ask you to follow a few safety guidelines. In the morning, please follow the kiss and ride drive through for dropping off your children. Please do not block the buses arriving. Make it a quick stop, allow your children to exit the vehicle, and continue safely to  the exit at the far end of the front parking lot.  For pick up, please DO NOT park at the front of the church. We must keep this way clear of traffic to allow our students to leave safely.  Please continue to park at the large church parking lot and walk over to pick up your children.  You will notice that we have the driveway blocked off at the end of the day, to once again keep our students safe. We appreciate your understanding. Staff need to wait for all buses to be loaded and on their way before we open up the driveway for through traffic.

Thanks for being a partner in creating a safe environment for our students and for celebrating our successes.

Final Thoughts

This has been a wonderful September.  We added 2 new portables, turf is on the way for our JK/SK yard, a buddy bench is soon to arrive, and some changes have begun in our learning commons area.  We also had our first School Council meeting with many new members coming out to share their time, ideas and passion for making St. Daniel the best school it can be.  We created awareness and did some fundraising with our Nutrition for Learning toonie collection and our Terry Fox Run today. We raised over $500 and counting for the Terry Fox Run and we soon start our Thanksgiving Food Drive.  Thanks for your donation to these causes. The Food Drive runs all of next week and ends after Thanksgiving weekend.

Have a wonderful last weekend of September and thank you for being part of our wonderful school community.

Franklin Park Multi-Sport Court – School Consultation

Have your say in the final design!

The Franklin Park Steering Committee has received a funding grant ($305, 000) from the Lyle S. Hallman Foundation to uplift the multi-purpose court at Franklin Public School Park. We want to renovate this court to increase physical activity and social opportunities for children and their families, both during school and after school hours. Fill out this survey by October 31, 2017 to let us know how we should design this space. We are asking community members from several schools and neighbourhoods to offer their opinions on this space. If you are an adult, please complete this survey with your children in mind.

Traffic and Bus Concerns

Good morning.

Thank you for your patience and understanding regarding our late bus situation and the traffic concerns on Ottawa, Midland and Franklin.

I have been working with the city and our Board in regards to this situation.

Currently, I need to ask you to NOT use the driveway as a pass through/cut through between Franklin and Midland. We will be blocking this off at the end of school times to ensure our children can leave safely. I understand that this is an inconvenience, but I also know that you understand that student safety needs to come first and we do not want anyone to be hit by a car.

Also, please use the larger St. Anthony Daniel Parking lot to wait for your children NOT the semi circle drop off at the Church doors.  You will be stuck there until after all buses leave should you park there.  Please use the bigger lot to park and walk to meet your children.  Again, this allows for children to walk safely without the worry of moving cars in that area.

Thanks so very much for your understanding.
