Welcome to 2018 Thunderbirds!
On behalf of the entire school community we would like to wish you a Happy New Year. Last year, we learned a lot, celebrated our faith, participated in clubs and team, supported one another, raised funds for local charities and had a great deal of fun. We are in the midst of another outstanding year.
St. Daniel’s teachers continue their professional development in regards to numeracy and as a staff, we are embracing the theme of “Daring Greatly”. We are also continuing and building on our work with Growth Mindset. We encourage you to ask your students about their math learning and about their developing growth mindsets. Math and technology are also a focus for us and we look forward to our Coding event this March, 2018. More details to come on our website, via twitter and letters being sent home.
Growth Mindset is an important tool to develop for each one of us. Having a growth mindset helps us have an open to learning stance. We can train our brains to be focused on what we can do, what the possibilities are, and what we need to work on to learn something new or master a skill. Hope is a terrific mindset trait to have. It allows us to zoom in on the possibilities within each of us to reach our full potential as God has planned for us. We have moved from a People of Hope to being a People of Faith, the third part of the WCDSB Multi-Year Strategic Plan. We work on strengthening our mindset, while focusing on creating and sustaining a strong culture of learning built with trust and teamwork, using our faith in God to guide us.
We have added 2 new water filling stations to our halls; a pergola and turf to our SK/JK yard; furniture and a colourful rug to the library (and more to come); brand new sound system; technology tables and learning tables in our Intermediate division; texts and math resources across our Primary and Junior Divisions and this year we will continue our work in Learning Commons space. Most of these additions were made possible by our amazing School Council and their fundraising initiatives, along with various grants that were applied for and secured. I am truly blessed to serve alongside a wonderful, supportive staff. The St. Daniel Community is AWESOME!
We look forward to our continued Roots of Empathy program with our Grade 2 class; welcoming the John Howard Society for their support with programs for a variety of classes beginning this month; as well as Carizon for their parental supports. Thank you to all our families and guardians for your continued support as partners in your child’s learning. May God continue to bless us this school year.
THUNDERBIRDS truly are a PEOPLE OF FAITH!!!
Yours in Faith,
Principal, St. Daniel Catholic Elementary School
