I wanted to ask for some support in helping us maintain safety on our buses. We have had some concerns regarding one bus and I thought it would be a good time for a general reminder for all.
If you could please take some time to review these expectations with your child(ren), that would be appreciated.
Students are expected to:
- sit on the bus, facing the front of the bus, and remain seated at ALL TIMES
- have their bodies and belongings in from the aisle, leaving the aisle clear
- listen to the bus patrol students and the driver
- be respectful of the noise level, talking quietly with their seat partner
The bus is an extension of the classroom and students need to keep their hands and feet to themselves and use appropriate language.
The driver needs to drive the bus safely and the students need to behave for the 10 minute drive from school.
Each bus has multiple patrollers from Grade 5-8. We do regular meetings and training (2 this week for example) and students MUST listen and follow the direction they provide.
When there are issues or concerns, the driver writes a report which I share with home in the student agenda. I also speak with the student, contact parents, and may have students in at recess or suspended from the bus for a day, 3 days or a week.
Riding the bus is a privilege not a right and all students must meet our expectations for safety and behaviour on the bus.
Thank you so very much for taking the time to review these rules and routines with your son/daughter. We remind them often via announcements, as they board the bus, and during large school assemblies, but sometimes they need the reminder from home as well.
Thank you and take care.
