Welcome to the Thunderbird Nest!
We hope you enjoyed a wonderful summer, and that you are relaxed, recharged and ready to start a new school year. We are indeed a joyous and caring community with the common goals of nurturing enthusiastic successful Thunderbirds, and promoting high-level faith based learning. We are truly “Called to Belong”.
The staff and I are very excited to begin another amazing school year together. With this in mind it is essential that you know what to expect on the first day. School starts Tuesday September 3rd at 9:10, dismissal is at 3:40.
NOTE: All SK students start Wednesday September 4th 9:10, please see your cash online account for specific details. All JK students should have received your student information in the mail. If you have any questions please call the office on Tuesday September 3rd.
On the first day, Tuesday September 3rd, Grades 1-8 will begin the day in our gym. We will have a blessing from Father Tim, and an introduction to new staff. From there, grades 4-8 will be invited with their teachers to head to our Library Learning Commons. There, teachers will call students that are in their class and head to their classrooms for the day. Grades 1-3 will stay in the gym, teachers will call students that are in their class and head to their classrooms for the day.
If you plan on walking you child into the gym and waiting with them to find out their teacher, we respectfully ask that you leave strollers outdoors and wait on the perimeter of the gym, while encouraging your child to sit on the floor with their friends. We just do not have space to accommodate all excited families. The gym will be organized with primary grades 1-3 at the front and junior/intermediate grades 4-8 sitting at the middle and back of the gym. This will help us with moving things along efficiently.
Please feel free to wish your child(ren) a happy first day of school on our school yard and then begin your day; we will have a lot of supervision to support and supervise the students. Thanks for your support.
We have had a significant amount of registrations over the summer. If your child’s name is not called they will be added to a class after our opening ceremonies.
With this being said, please know that a great deal of time, effort and thought has gone into the process of student placement for the 2019-2020 school year.
Careful consideration was given to place your child in their class. Classrooms have been balanced academically and socially. Our class lists are structured to provide equitable class sizes at each grade level. Moving students is difficult situation and process. However, due to our growth, classes may change within the first two weeks of school. If your child is impacted by a class change within the first two weeks of school you will receive a letter/call indicating the new changes.
Thank you so much for being positive with your child(ren) and helping them understand that it is impossible to place all students with a preferred best friend or teacher. ALL of our staff works hard to make school a positive experience for ALL students. We are eagerly looking forward to enriching your child’s life. Thank you in advance for understanding that it can take a few weeks for a child to transition to a new grade, peer group and teacher.
Finally, due to construction the office will not be open until Tuesday September 3rd. We thank you so much for your continued support. See you soon!
