St. Daniel Student Turkey Lunch – December 20

Hello Families,

Please open the attachment:

Turkey Lunch Flyer 2023

We are excited to invite all students and staff of St. Daniel School to a wonderful Christmas Turkey lunch in the gymnasium on Wednesday, December 20th, 2023.

Our delicious Christmas meal will include turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, veggies, buns, and a cookie! We are asking students to be “green” by bringing their own plate, utensils, and drink/water bottle.

To help offset the cost of the meal, we are asking parents to contribute $8.00 per child. All payments can be made through SchoolCash Online (link in attachment).

In order to make this lunch successful we also need your help. If you and/or other family members are interested in supporting this tradition by volunteering, please let us know by filling out the link below. Our volunteer coordinator will reach out to you to share event details (link in attachment).

We appreciate your assistance with this special tradition and look forward to another awesome Christmas Lunch at St. Daniel School!

Inclement Weather Procedures…

Hello Families,

At this time of the year we like to take a moment to remind you of our inclement weather procedures. Please give us a call if you have any questions at all.

SCHOOL BUS CANCELLATIONS AND SCHOOL CLOSURES

During the winter season there are days when school buses will not be able to operate because of fog, freezing rain or other adverse road conditions. This may be confined to certain areas or could necessitate a complete system shut-down for that day. If conditions are severe enough, school may also be closed.

Bus operators will consult with their drivers and other monitors to determine road conditions. If conditions appear unsafe, they will contact the Transportation Official for approval to cancel buses.

If there is a decision to cancel, the Transportation Official will contact the radio stations. Bus cancellation and school closure notices affecting our schools will be given out between 6:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. to all local radio stations and media outlets and social media.

Cancellation information is also posted on the Board’s website at www.wcdsb.ca.  If possible – we also try to send out an additional NewsWire from the school.

Unless a system closure has been announced, all schools will be open during regular hours. When morning bus routes have been cancelled, buses are cancelled for the day.

If buses are cancelled and parents bring their children and/or other children to school, it is the parents’ responsibility to pick them up at the end of the school day.

Please give us a call here at the school if you have any questions.

Take good care,

St. Daniel School Staff

Bus behaviour concerns…

Hello Families,

In the past week our students participated in bus safety/ evacuation drills.

Please take some time this weekend to discuss the following with your children

In recent weeks we have had students make many unsafe choices on our buses. This has included mistreatment of other students, mistreatment of the driver, and a complete disregard for safety rules that have been reviewed.

Riding the bus in a privilege. The drivers have a very hard job and student behaviour has created safety concerns. With driver shortages a reality, now more than ever we need to be kind and respectful to STSWR staff, and to one another.

Please review the following with your children so we can ensure we all arrive and depart from school safely each day.

RULES OF CONDUCT ON THE SCHOOL BUS

WCDSB AP0012: Transportation Policy

  1. Every student is responsible to the Principal/Vice-Principal for their conduct on a school bus
  2. Students must act appropriately so as not to endanger the safety or comfort of themselves or others
  3. Students at all times are to obey the driver, who is in charge of the bus and all passengers
  4. Students are to sit where directed by the Principal/Vice-Principal, designate or driver and are to remain seated until the end of their trip
  5. Students will be allowed to leave or board the bus only at their regular stop, (i.e., at school and at home stop).
  6. Students will only ride the bus assigned to them.
  7. The following examples of behavior on a bus are prohibited at all times:
  • eating food or drinking beverages
  • Using a phone or personal device (Wait until off the bus)
  • unnecessary opening and closing of windows
  • throwing items
  • fighting, wrestling, yelling, climbing
  • use, possession or sale of alcohol or illicit drugs
  • the possession of weapons or items which are intended to be used as a weapon
  • using obscene or profane language
  • harassment or bullying of any kind

STSWR and WCDSB consider parents/guardians responsible for the safety and conduct of their children before they are picked up and after they have been dropped off at their stop.

For information on bus stops/bus concerns – please call STSWR at 519-744-7575
